Dear Dr. Sinno
By entering into the university everything has
changed, it was like moving into a new world and becoming open to a bigger,
totally different society. When I first registered English 203 I thought that
it would be as boring as school English but it was a totally different level of
English. In fact it was the first time I wait English classes anxiously, they
were so much fun and it was far away from the stresses we had from other
courses. Being a pre-med student gives so much pressure to do my best in all
courses in order to enter medicine school but I really enjoyed the assignment
you gave us especially those that dealt with issues we are facing here in
Lebanon.
Giving us the total
freedom to comment on certain issues and to participate in debates was the best
thing because I was not allowed to comment on anything in school. The group
assignments and the online sessions were very helpful, they helped us in
sharing ideas in organized way and in making friends. The most thing I enjoyed
during this semester is when we debated about the topics of the presentations when
everyone participated to give his/her opinion and the fact that you didn’t
constrain us to give our opinion and we were free to say what we want.

What was hard to me is that I was used to write only
scientific essays about technology, pollution, medicine… and I am not
accustomed to deal with social topics so it took much time to gather the
information and organize them, also in most of the time I found myself
incapable of going into depth with the ideas maybe because I don’t have a
background of most of the topics used.
What I manage to do is to read social academic essays
to know how to write and how to better link ideas.
I am so glad that I registered with you because you made English an
interesting subject and let me understand more about the topics we talked about
and how to deal with them, I also noticed that my writing skills have evolved.
I would like to thank you for your friendly way of teaching us academic
English.
Sincerely yours,
Hanin
